Mother Tongue and the problems of teaching Urdu

Abstract

Urdu is official language of Pakistan but it is not mother tongue of majority of people of Pakistan. There is a deep effect of local languages on the accent of people particularly in rural areas of Pakistan. Although there are a large number of opportunities for teaching Urdu in Pakistan but many local languages have clear difference with Urdu. So people who speak such languages cannot speak Urdu properly. According to Experts of language teaching we must try to focus on linguistic instead of literature of target language. We can teach the learners of target language the grammar, vocabulary, sentence making and communication skills. We are living in era of science. So teaching of Urdu should be in scientific way.
